PVD Coatings - Now Offered at PCT
Precision Cutting Tools prides itself on a new in-house Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) Coating Plant, Eifeler Coating Services, Inc., which is a joint venture between Eifeler Werkzeuge GmbH (Dusseldorf, Germany) & Precision Cutting Tools. This new facility features the most recent Cathodic Arc coating equipment from Eifeler, advanced production technologies, precision fixturing, high volume capacities, sophisticated inspection and failure analysis equipment. This full service facility is capable of handling tooling ranging from smaller round shank tools to large hobs and broaches. Eifeler Coating Services has just introduced a unique new multi-layered technology, which has shown significant performance benefits over traditional coatings. Now, Precision Cutting Tools is proud to offer it to the American market.
  Full Range of Coatings

Precision Cutting Tools can now offer a wide variety of PVD coatings, including your choice of TiN, TiCN, CrN, CrCN, Exxtral® Plus (AlTiN), Varianta® (TiAlN), and Variantic® (TiAlCN).   TiN (Titanium Nitride)
General purpose coating for cutting, forming, injection molding as well as tribological application.
Thickness: 1 ~ 4 microns
Hardness: 2300 Vickers
Thermal Stability: 900° F
Lubricity: 0.6 coefficient of friction
Recommended Applications: Carbon Steels, Tool Steels, 300/400 Series Stainless.
  TiCN (Titanium Carbo-Nitride)
Recommended for milling, tapping, stamping, punching, and forming.

Thickness: 1 ~ 4 microns
Hardness: 3500 Vickers
Thermal Stability: 750° F
Lubricity: 0.5 coefficient of friction
Recommended Applications: Alloy Steels, Tool Steels, Aluminum, Cast Iron.

CrN & CrCN (Chromium Nitride Carbide Carbo-Nitride)
.
CrN has a lower range of internal stresses and is widely used as an anti-wear coating. Coatings with thicknesses of over 40 µm are routinely used in automotive applications.
Thickness: 1 ~ 6 microns
Hardness: 2200 Vickers
Thermal Stability: 1100° F
Lubricity: 0.2-0.3 coefficient of friction
Recommended Applications: Carbon Steels, Aluminum, Aluminized or Zinc Coated, Brass, 300 Series Stainless Steels.
Coating for forming applications: for molds and dies. Optimum release for forming tools
.
Exxtral® Plus - AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride)
.
AlTiN (Aluminum Titanium Nitride) creates an extremely hard, smooth surface that resists scratches and sticking.
Thickness: 1 ~ 3 Microns
Hardness: 3300 Vickers
Thermal Stability: 1470° F
Lubricity: 0.7 Coefficient of Friction
Recommended Applications: Hardened steel workpieces and carbide endmills; high speed operations and cutting tasks where other coatings reached their limits or thermal and mechanical load
Varianta® - TiAlN (Titanium Aluminum Nitride)
Thickness: 2 ~ 6 Microns
Hardness: 3500 Vickers
Thermal Stability: 1470° F
Lubricity: 0.7 Coefficient of Friction
Recommended Applications: Carbon Steels, Alloy Steels, Tool Steels, Ni Alloys, Ti Alloys, Cast Iron, Composites, 300/400/PH Stainless. High performance coating for cutting (drilling, milling, reaming, turning).
  Variantic® - TiAlCN (Titanium Aluminum Carbo-Nitride)
.
Special coating with low friction coefficient, high heat resistance, high toughness and hardness.

Thickness: 2 ~ 4 Microns
Hardness: 3500 Vickers
Thermal Stability: 1470° F
Lubricity: 0.2 Coefficient of Friction
Recommended for: Milling, hobbing, and tapping, Stamping and punching
